Hi! Introductions

Hi guys, my name's Wen and i'm a drummer from Singapore who's been lurking around these forums forever....am off to Berklee in January and just wanted to introduce myself and ask if any of you guys have any advice on how to get the most out of the Berklee experience...ensembles to take, teachers to take lessons with etc etc

Steve, just wanted to let you know your DVD shed some light has gotten all the way here to Singapore and i know at least 3 people who've bought copies...

Anyways, I just wanted to thank all you guys for making this place such an amazing place, and only wish i had started contributed earlier... hope to hear from all of you.

Congratulations on the berklee thing, your gonna be hanging with the best musicians of the future!

Im curious as to how you plan to finance Berklee, i would definetely apply to go there if not for the insanely hight tuition costs!

Are you privately financing it or did you get any scholarships? if so how did you obtain them?

Hey SP,
yes i am on scholarships... 2 actually. Have you heard about the berklee world scholarships tour? it's where the lecturers go around the world to their affiliate schools and look for students to give scholarships to...it's actually pretty fun and they're extremely nice...anyways berklee gave me a half tuition scholarship and the other half is being covered by the National Arts Council of Singapore...of course all this is dependent on me keeping my grades up and all that...

So basically all i'm paying for is for living expenses and rent...which my parents are helping me out with... if you want more information about the world scholarship tour just look at the Berk website and you can PM me and I can tell you what the whole process is like...

Also you should look into the BEST scholarship from Berklee which is where you send in a recording of yourself...if you're applying for a scholarship based on performance then it's a one or the other kinda situation, you can't add the money you get from the World Scholarship Tour to the BEST one...but you can try to get money from the WST and add that to money you get from BEST based on submission of your compositions.

Hi Wen, good luck there. If I were going there, I'd try and get lessons with Dave DiCenso. He's got incredible feel and command of lots of advanced concepts. I've taken some lessons with Mike Mangini and he's very bright and has many interesting ideas too, but as I understand, in huge demand.

Welcome Wen.... good luck at Berkley. Try to get to S.F. and check out some gigs at Yoshi's, or even better, come down to L.A. and check out some of the hot spots out here.
